The College of Veterinary Medicine is is included within two University of Florida administrative units, having funding and reporting ties to both the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and UF Health. It is organized into six functional and administrative units:

Infectious Diseases and Immunology

The Department of Infectious Diseases and Immunology acquires, advances, and disseminates knowledge in the fields of microbiology, immunology, vector-borne diseases, epidemiology, and other disciplines that will help identify, control and prevent animal disease.

Small Animal Clinical Sciences

The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences includes instruction, research and service relating to companion animals as well as exotic animals and wildlife. The teaching program includes didactic, clinical, and graduate instruction aimed at furthering knowledge in the area of pet health and well being.

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences provides for the quality teaching, research, extension, and service missions of the College in the primary areas of equine health, production animal health, aquatic animal health, and companion animal health.

Physiological Sciences

The Department of Physiological Sciences educates veterinary medical students in a variety of disciplines, including anatomy, cell biology, pharmacology, physiology, and toxicology. Our department also includes UF’s Center for Environmental and Human Toxicology.

College Organization

The College is administratively organized with Dr. Dana Zimmel leading as Interim Dean. Dr. Amanda House is Interim Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, overseeing instructional and other activities associated with the college’s professional D.V.M. program, along with college recruitment, progress, and retention of students. Dr. Chris Sanchez oversees clinical activities as Interim Associate Dean for Clinical Services for the UF Veterinary Hospitals. Dr. David Pascual serves as Interim Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and oversees research and grant proposals as well as the college’s Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs.

Business, grants management, administrative and support services, as well as human resources for the College, are handled through the Executive Director’s Office. The Associate Director of Finance and Budget is David Segura.

Katie Boudreau is Senior Director of Development and Alumni Affairs and Sarah Carey is our Director for Communications.

Our department chairs include Dr. Guy Lester, Large Animal Clinical Sciences; Dr. Julie Moore, Infectious Diseases and Immunology; Dr. Paul Cooke, Physiological Sciences; Dr. Christopher Adin, Small Animal Clinical Sciences and Dr. Subhashinie Kariyawasam, Comparative, Diagnostic and Population Medicine.

The UF Veterinary Hospitals at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine include the Small Animal Hospital, the Large Animal Hospital and the Pet Emergency Treatment Services in Ocala.
